Your bathroom is somewhere that every member of your family uses every day and is an absolutely integral part of any home, so it’s important that you look after it.

Not only should your bathroom be fit for purpose each and every day, but it’s also one of the main rooms that a buyer will look at if you come to sell your home so can add a lot of value.

But with that value undoubtedly comes a high price tag for you. We all know that a new bathroom is not a cheaper addition to any home. So if you’re considering renovating your bathroom, then you need to be sure that it’s the right decision for you before you splash the cash!

With that being said, here are our top 8 tell-tale signs that it’s definitely time to take the plunge into a new bathroom.

1) You’ve Got Noticeable Damage or Mould

Unfortunately, it’s no surprise that any wet area such as a bathroom is an ideal environment for mould growth since they are most prone to becoming damp and humid.

If your bathroom tiles are covered in mould no matter how many times you scrub them, then it is a serious issue and could be affecting your health.

You may also have noticeable damage that is beyond repair such as broken toilets, faulty taps, or broken bath panels, for example. If you have a damaged bath panel you can replace a bath panel quite cheaply by looking at stores like Better Bathrooms.

2) You’ve Got Leaks

Leaks are one of the top signs that your bathroom needs a remodel, now more than ever. A leaking tap could make your water bill absolutely skyrocket!

Leaks can cause major damage to your home, including clogged pipes and even flooding. This then can lead to more expense trying to fix the aftermath of damage in other rooms. It is always better to be safe than sorry, especially when it comes to a potential flooding hazard.

Some of these things may just be minor fixes that you can do yourself, so if you have faulty taps you could pick up some lovely new modern taps at places like Plumbworld.

3) The Décor is Outdated

If you feel like your décor is outdated, then colour decisions are a great place to start. It may be that your bathroom simply needs a new lick of paint, or it could be that the style or colour of your tiles or bathroom suite is no longer trendy or modern.

Set the colour palette and then design and use decorative elements to spruce it up. Using white, black, beige, or grey will make the room look ageless in the future. If you are on the hunt for some new tiles we recommend taking a look at stores such as City Plumbing where you can pick up some stunning modern tiles at discount prices.

You don’t want to commit to a colour or pattern that will date quickly or that you might not like later on.

4) You Avoid Having Guests Stay Over

If you find yourself consciously or subconsciously avoiding having any guests stay over in your house because of your bathroom, then this can be an obvious sign that you are unhappy with it.

If you feel this way, then make a start. Get some quotes, check out some different bathroom suites, look for tiles, and seek out your new walk-in shower from places such as Big Bathroom Shop which has some gorgeous fitted showers. Even just starting the process can make you feel better straight away.

5) You’re Lacking Storage Space

It’s actually really surprising the number of things we store in our bathrooms, especially with the size of the room compared to the rest of the house.

If you are running out of space and your belongings are spilling out, then it can make the room look constantly messy.

If you’re taking too much time to find something because the cupboards are stuffed to the brim, it’s time to create more space. You need to maximise the space you do have – for example, if you don’t have a huge floor area, then look out for wall storage units or shelving from retailers such as Wholesale Domestic where you’re sure to bag a bargain.

6) It’s Not Functional

Do you feel like your bathroom lacks functionality?

It might be a change as small as installing a corner wall sink to provide more floor space. Opting for slimline radiators or towel rails on the wall. Or even simply ensuring there is a space for a mirror directly behind the sink for brushing your teeth and washing your face. Or maybe some new accessories that match the décor like hand towels, from stores like Bodum. You can change the whole feel of your bathroom just by updating your accessories.

Small changes like this can significantly improve the functionality of your bathroom. However, in some cases, it is that your bathroom needs remodelling to a new layout.

7) It’s Not Accessible

If someone in your home or who regularly visits requires added accessibility, then adding functionality and safety features is key.

If you’ve recently had an elder relative come and live with you, then it may be time to remove your bathtub and replace with a walk-in shower or wet room instead. You may also need to install some helpful safety features such as handrails, higher toilets, and more space to move around. You could create more space by moving furniture out and adding shower shelving so you have more space. You can pick up some tidy shower shelves and shower caddys from stores like Joseph Joseph.

Likewise, you could’ve even recently bought a dog or had a baby and may need a bathtub with an overhead shower head to make washing more convenient.

8) It’s Not Light or Airy

Last but not least, the lighting and ventilation in your bathroom are important features to consider.

If you’re getting ready in the bathroom, then lots of natural coming through is always more favourable than artificial lighting. However, when you’re getting ready in the morning throughout winter, then spotlights could be a good option.

Having an airy bathroom with the correct fan ventilation and windows is also extremely important. Without it, the condensation in your bathroom can cause dampness which can damage your bathroom and affect your health.

We also recommend that you store your toothbrushes safely using toothbrush holders from stores like Rinkit instead of leaving them out on the side of the sink if you don’t have good ventilation in your bathroom.
